Dafne Schippers could Friday night her luck after her world title at the 200 metres win in London. She was relieved that her new approach again this season to gold led.

“I am so happy. I have fought so hard to the finish line and when I won. It was a real fight, great,” said Schippers in a first reaction to the camera of the NOS.

“In the first hundred meters, I saw nothing, because I ran in lane six. After the turn, I saw Marie-Josée Ta Lou in the corner of my eye and I thought: now I have to turn on and keep fighting. That’s what I did.”

The 25-year-old Skippers saw that all training efforts are paid in London. “I’ve got the whole year worked hard for it and there is so much changed, including a coachwissel. After a brutal year, this is great.”

Schippers, who late last year decided to switch from coach Bart Bennema to Rana Reider, followed in the footsteps of the Jamaican Marlene Ottey (1993 and 1995) and the American Allyson Felix (2005, 2007 and 2009). They were to Friday, the only two women in the world title at the 200 metres had prolonged.
