Edison awards for Reinier Baas and Solange
The winners of the Edison Jazz/World are known. In the category Jazz National won a jazz guitar-player and composer Reinier Baas with the jazz-opera ‘us. Princess Discombobulatrix’.
The jury calls him a “musical master” who, with his latest project fails to make a connection between jazz and classical music.
The Belgian singer David Linx with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra songs of Brel, played, won in the category Vocal.
Singer Solange (Knowles) awarded the prize in the category Soul & Beyond for her soulalbum A Seat At The Table. According to the jury, is the music on the album of the little sister of Beyoncé “sublime” and the lyrics strong.
Also won the American jazz Bill Frisell the Edison International and the Tunisian composer Dhafer Youssef in the category World. The cd-box As It Was the Peter Erskine Trio received the Edison for The Document.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday 30 June in the Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam. A number of winners will occur with the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra at North Sea Round Town festival.
The Edison is the oldest music prize in the Netherlands.
