In the second poulematch against Tunisia late Eden Hazard for the first time to see in which bloedvorm he puts out. He scores two times.

“It was an almost perfect afternoon’, relives the number ten of Belgium and Chelsea that match. ‘We played very good football, scored five times, and in the evening we were allowed our families to see. I could only be happy.

‘On the sporting field, I was also reassured by the collective performance after the difficult match against Panama. Even though I knew very well that a first match at a major tournament is always difficult and that the result is more important than the quality of the game.’

After that failure on the EK, should it not again go wrong for this generation, was also aware of the Hazard. ‘Yet I am without too much pressure to the world cup gone. I felt not the weight of a country on my shoulders, like a Neymar or a Mo Salah. I was very quiet in my head.

“With Chelsea I had a difficult season experienced. The results in the league were not good and we were already very early from the Champions League (in the eighth-finals against Barcelona, ed.). We were so happy our season save with the FA Cup.’

“I felt better and better during the course of the season. A year earlier I was injured and I had several weeks on the side stood, that may have ensured that I physically fresher, in Russia arrived.

‘And it’s true that I have a month before the tournament started already have a good hunch. I had a good conversation with the coach, I felt that this was my moment would be. But I was also not obsessed by the event, also played the world cup, unconsciously, already a few months in my head. But I’m not particularly prepared or so. A bit like at school… (laughs) I have the business is always taken as they came.’

Really shine on the world stage did the small Belgian dribbelaar in the quarterfinals against Brazil (Eden Hazard: ‘Individually – even if we have huge qualities – they were all positions better. It was also the first time that one could say that we are not the favorite.”) and although lost semi-final against France.

“The luck that we had against Brazil, we missed against France’, he says today. “Your frustrated, because the next world cup is still far away. You think that maybe you never will win with your country, even though I believe there is still in. Four years ago, in Brazil, we shot a bit short, but this time we were ready. It has really of details depended on, for money.’
