E-bookverkoop grows by 9 percent in 2016

The sale of e-books in the Netherlands in the past year, with some 9 percent. There were more than 2.8 million digital books were sold.

The lending of e-books via grew last year quickly in popularity, evidenced by new figures from CB (formerly Centraal Boekhuis).

There were even more e-books loaned out than sold in 2016. The number of loans amounted to 2,865 million: more than 51.000 more than the number of books sold.

The sale of e-books is still a small part of the total book market. Of all of books sold was 6.5 percent, a digital copy. Because e-books are on average almost two times as cheap as physical books, it was the revenue contribution is even lower.

There are now almost 44.000 Dutch e-books to purchase. About a third of them can also be borrowed from the library, or can be downloaded through subscription services as Bliyoo.
