Dutch star restaurant destroys wines after brand in foot

The fire that in July long raged in the marlstone caves of Kanne has significant consequences for the michelin star restaurant Chateau Neercanne in Maastricht. That will see her entire wijnvoorraad go up in smoke.

A thick line through the account of michelin star restaurant Chateau Neercanne and a sad moment for a lot of wine lovers: the unique wijnvoorraad of the restaurant is completely drained. The sterrenzaak kept her stock of 10,000 bottles in the marl caves under the castle, which was for a while, a difficult to extinguish the fire raged.

The restaurant took twelve years to the beautiful collection to collection, but due to the high temperatures to which the bottles were exposed they are now no longer drinkable, says director Peter Harkema. A while ago, saw it still there, that the bottles recovered could be, but now it seems that won’t have.

The restaurant can offer its guests wines giving off its own wine cellar in the castle itself, but the precious bottles were lost.
