Dutch people marry less and less often
Fewer and fewer people are married. The Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS) set on Tuesday that the share of the population that is married, continues to decline. And especially in people younger than fifty years.
Forty years ago, in 1976, were almost all men and women of thirty years of marriage. Ten years ago, in 2006, was still 38 percent of the dertigjarigen married. This year, that is still 31 percent.
CBS notes, however, that most twenty-somethings say that they do ever want to get married. Of the twenty-somethings who live in cohabitation with their partner’s wants about 70 percent ever with their partner going to get married.
The reason is, in many cases, ‘fixing the relationship’, the presence of children or the desire for the future.
