Dutch curlers beat olympic champion USA in openingsduel world cup

The Dutch curlingmannen in the opening match of the world championship in Canada for a thundering surprise provided by olympic champion United States to win.

The men from coach Shari Leibbrandt were 6-5 too strong for the Americans, who last year in Pyeongchang the olympic title binnenhaalden. The netherlands was not in South Korea present.

Skip Jaap van Dorp, Laurens Hoekman, Carlo Glasbergen and Wouter Gösgens names early on in the race to a 2-0 lead after a steal (break) on the second turn of the Americans. Halfway through the duel led the Netherlands with 3-2.

After the peace seemed to be the olympic champion under the leadership of John Shuster in order and picked up in the penultimate end a 4-5 lead. Wouter Gösgens decided in the tenth and final end, yet the game by two points to score: 6-5.

The Dutch curlingmannen do pass for the fourth time in the history of the world cup. The United States since 1961 continuously, and took four times the world championship.

Skip Town pride in victory

“We kept control of the race,” responded captain Jaap van Village. “We have tactically played as we wanted. The last part was tricky, but we had all the confidence in. Wouter threw the great.”

The Dutch men pursue the world championship Sunday against, respectively, reigning world champion Sweden and later in the day against reigning European champion, Scotland.
