Dunford countries in Afghanistan to review the AMERICAN military campaign

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan – The top U.S. military officer has arrived in Afghanistan to take a look in the ongoing campaign to beef up training and advice teams as well as the next fighting season looms.

The visit of Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, follows a two-day stop in the country by the Minister of Defense of Jim Mattis last week in a renewed attempt to bring Taliban militants to the peace table with Afghan government.

The strengthening of that effort is an increased AMERICAN military campaign aimed at ensuring the Afghan forces are making good progress against the Taliban and other insurgents in the fighting season this spring.

Dunford and other U.S. defense leaders are looking to corner what is a persistent stalemate after more than 16 years of age from the battle.
