Rep. Duncan Hunter could not get the support of San Diego Republicans on Monday, as the embattled Congressman’s seat approaches a Federal corruption trial and stiff challenges in the house.
None of the four candidates for the 50-constituency received the necessary two-thirds to get a majority, a confirmation of the Republican party of San Diego County.
Hunter and state Sen. Brian Jones received 14 votes each. Former San Diego city Councilman Carl DeMaio received 21 votes, while former Rep. Darrell Issa get no.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that DeMaio won the first round of voting, but was eliminated in the second. Jones beat the hunter in the third and final round but didn’t get the two-thirds majority is required. Jones said he was not going to win, depending on his party’s support.
“It was always an extra,” he said. “It was never a strategy factored in our campaign to win.”
Hunter, a six-term Congressman and Navy veteran who served in Iraq, tried his case in his speech before the vote.
“I won this seat in the worst of times. I’m still struggling from this seat. I’m still fighting for you,” he said.
Monday was the first time that he is not the GOP’s full support. Hunter-speaker, Michael Harrison, told Fox News that Hunter, the party does not endorse candidates.
“The party was obliged to do, a process in this time that Congressman Hunter is respected and embraced,” Harrison. “Obviously, they have the unique circumstances of the detention. Has brought in other well-known Republicans.”
Harrison said hunter is expected that the process will be completed early next year, to give the electorate the opportunity to chose “for yourself you want, without a cloud or the questions hanging over the race for the last couple of years.”
The 50th district includes Eastern and Northern San Diego County and is part of Riverside County and a Republican Outpost in a state dominated by Democrats.

The region was reported to be the most loyal to the hunter’s name, The Tribune. His father, Duncan L. hunter served in Congress from 1981 to 2009.
Some see hunters as being particularly vulnerable heading into the 2020 election, considering that he faces federal corruption charges and almost a tight race in the year 2018, won. Prosecutors say hunter and his wife, Margaret, spent more than $250,000 in campaign funds on personal expenses, including vacations, food and gold trips.
Hunter is also accused of using the campaign money to Finance a series of romantic trysts with lobbyists and congressional elections, aide-de-camp.
Margaret hunter known count guilty in June to corruption and agreed to cooperate with investigators and testify against her husband was at the end.
