Prosecutors accuse the Republican lawmaker and his wife to spend illegally more than $250,000 in campaign money for a family, vacation, school, tutoring, dentures, and other personal things; Jonathan Hunt reports from Los Angeles.
Lawyers for embattled Republic Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., Ask a Federal judge blocked the government from introducing evidence that he Finance charged his campaign thousands of dollars to extramarital relationships with several women.
The lawyers argued in an eight-page document filed Friday that prosecutors are looking for evidence to introduce, which is not relevant to the allegations of corruption against Hunter.
“The evidence of Mr hunter’s” intimate Affairs ” is not said directly relevant to the ultimate issue in this case, if Mr. hunter knowingly campaign converted funds for his personal use,” the motion.

Politico reported that defenders of state chastised lawyers for airing Duncan’s infidelity in the public by a motion Monday filed hearing questions for the jury to testimony about the conditions.
“Disliked the idea of a married man, however, are mixing business with pleasure, the government can not just the reality, dismiss, that Mr. hunter, in the relations to [the women] often wrote down a manifestly political purpose that didn’t exist would be served, regardless of his profession,” she said.
Hunter, an Iraq war veteran — is expected to spend in court as a result of allegedly more than $250,000 in campaign funds, in the holidays, meals, hotel stays, and invoices. He is also alleged to be the campaign netted thousands of dollars for drinks, Uber and flight during trysts with various women, the lobbyists and congressional elections, aide-de-camp.
Hunter’s defense team said the charges listed were by prosecutors ” in connection with a legitimate political activities.”

“In his quest to highlight the intimate nature of these relationships, which do not take account of the government makes sense the fact that, just as in the case of Mr. Hunter’s Platonic relationships, his friendships, which often blurs the boundary between personal and professional, is a widespread occurrence in modern politics,” the lawyers said.
Hunter has denied any misconduct and said that his wife, Margaret Hunter, handled the family finances and served as his campaign manager.
“Mr. Hunter’s military service is relevant to show, he left his family, the financial responsibility of his wife while on deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan, and this arrangement continued throughout the period of the indictment,” defense lawyers wrote.

Margaret hunter pleaded guilty earlier this month to a single felony, conspiracy charge and is cooperating with prosecutors.
The San Diego Congressman of the study is planned for September. Hunter-lawyers are seeking to dismiss the indictment and move the trial out of San Diego County. They argued that extra-marital affair, allegations the jury pool tainted.
