Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana are shunned by the designers after Stefano Gabbana hit the actress and called her ‘ugly’ on social media.
If you mess with Selena Gomez, are willing to pay the price.
After Stefano Gabbana allowed an incendiary insult under an Instagram photo of the 25-year-old pop star last week — the writing “è proprio brutta,” which roughly translates to “she is so ugly” — celebrity stylists purge their shelves of all the monsters wearing a Dolce & Gabbana label.
On the Business of Fashion’s “The Future of the Red Carpet” panel on Monday, Hollywood’s most in-demand sideboards had a few fighting words for the 55-year-old Gabbana and his criticism of Gomez.
“I reacted badly,” star stylist Karla Welch said, according to the Pret-a-Reporter. “I had a Dolce on the rack for a suitable and said: ‘No, go away.’ That is just plain mean.” Welch dresses some of pop’s top talent, including Justin Bieber, Lorde and Pink.
Jason Bolden, the stylist behind Taraji P. Henson and Gabrielle Union’s cabinets, added that Gabbana’s history of controversial comments and political views has made him persona non grata with his star clientele. “Not since the beginning of time, have you seen the Dolce on my rack,” Bolden said. “These silhouettes are great and they get everyone. But my girls are like, what? It is a done deal.”
