Dodi Lukebakio: ‘The hattrick against Bayern made me not so much… maybe that’s my problem”

With an average of one goal to the 93 minutes was Dodi Lukebakio in 2018, the most efficient Belgian in Europe. The player itself surprised when we gave him that statistic to show: ‘Ah, okay! I am an attacker, so I love statistics, but this I do not know. I can only be satisfied, if you know that men like Dries Mertens, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku et cetera, and thirty in a season.

“That may be me just boosting. In the past I had the tendency to after a success to think that I was already there. But as I am now no more: I know that I am capable of and what I still need to learn.’

He refers to his turbulent doorbraakperiode at RSC Anderlecht, where he trained and a little too fast thought he had made. ‘It went fast: I’m starting to train with the first team of Anderlecht when I was seventeen was, and from one day to the other was said to me that I was in the clash.

“The first team is a different world than the youth. You should, at that moment, a lot of questions, that you need to do further work… And if you don’t do it, it becomes very difficult. Four alarm clocks
