Dimitri Verhulst will never cooperate with the VPRO programme Zomergasten. The Flemish writer finds himself not suitable for the interviewprogramma.
“The day that the VPRO the me asks, I say no,” says Verhulst (De helaasheid der dingen) in interview with the Belgian magazine Humo.
“I’m not myself explain it through images. I have myself been too much explained, I think, that you have sat. And then three hours long…”, continues the 44-year-old author.
In Summer guests may prominent people from the art, film and music, politics and science talk about themselves using their selected responsibilities. For Verhulst seems this concept is not totally suitable.
“The summer I Summer seen for the first time. One or other scientist told the man that a thousand years will be, perhaps already born. After an hour and a half I had it, but I had it down. No, the Summer is just not a good program for me, I watch too little tv.”
However, it is Verhulst this spring to see the series Made in Europe on NPO 2. That program attracted the writer in Europe, looking for the origin of well-known icons. Very convinced of the project, he was initially not.
“I have a holy fear to watch on tv. I do it only goes about things in my world to have, in this case art. It is also a commitment in terms of time. We have 85 days abroad, turned, and then a week in the studio, and we are even not ready.”
