BERLIN (Reuters) – Deutsche Telekom is to pull out of this month at the Mobile World Congress, a source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday, adding to an official announcement made by the other European operators as possible, it was late in the day.

Such a move, if confirmed, would deal a fatal blow to the Feb. 24-27, which traditionally attracts 100,000 visitors to Barcelona, spain, as Eu operators are essential members of the GSMA industry association which is the host of the event.

Even after a spate of withdrawals, with the U.S., the exhibitors have to pull out en masse on Tuesday, the GSMA has adopted and the rule is that the event will not take place. The GSMA’s board of directors, composed of industry executives, will convene on Friday to review its options, the sources said.
