NEW ORLEANS – Inmate advocates have asked for video and documents from the New Orleans prison when they are in a weekend of disruption, they say, is more serious than the authorities have reported.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office has said about a dozen prisoners barricaded themselves into a house Friday night in an incident that lasted for about an hour.
On Monday, lawyer Emily Washington with the MacArthur Justice Center released a letter to the court-approved director of the prison. It says the centre has received accounts of a series of events from Friday afternoon, including fights and at least one fire.
It says the area where the disturbance occurred was so poorly supervised that the prisoners had access to the checks, and let his fellow prisoners out of cells.
