Potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and progressive activist, spent Thursday weaponizing the death of a 7-year-old migrant girl, who reportedly died in U.S. Border Patrol custody, though officials say they had not eaten or consumed water for several days before the arrest.
U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., probably leading to 2020 contenders, immediately jumped on the news, calling for the investigation.
“This is tragic. We need a comprehensive and thorough representation of what happened before the 7-year-wrote-old girl died of dehydration and exhaustion in CBP custody,” Harris in a tweet.
U.S. sen Cory Booker, D-N. J., another possible 2020 candidate, also issued a tweet in the middle of the reports.
“Shaken by this news. My heart breaks for the young girl and her family,” he wrote.
The girl, originally from Guatemala, was part of the 163 group of migrants crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally and surrendered to the border agent Dec. 6.
Only eight hours later, the girl with seizures and was flown started to El Paso, Texas, in the hospital where you received treatment, according to the Washington Post.
Customs and border protection officials said the girl was dehydrated, had not eaten or consumed water for several days before she was arrested, with other migrants.
Other Democrats also spoke about the tragic death of the girl. Ben Rhodes, a former adviser to the former President Barack Obama blames the girl death on the rhetoric about the migrant caravan.
“This little girl deserves so much better. Not always, in a dehumanising rhetoric on caravans and immigrants. This is what that leads to. Each child has a dignity that must be maintained,” he wrote in a tweet.
Progressive activist Shaun King, meanwhile, said that the country and the President Trump were responsible for the deaths of the migrants.
My God. Shame on our country and shame on Donald Trump,” he wrote. “These are not thugs & criminals. Are you people that desperate for a safe haven. This is a grave sin.”
The women’s March-the Deputy, claiming the trump administration, on the border of the enforcement of the rules led to the death of the girl.
“Horrible. You should never camp in a prison. You should never put neglected once in custody. Her death is wrote in this government’s hands,” the progressive group.
It remained unclear what happened in the eight hours that the girls spent in the Border Patrol’s detention facilities, which are intended to be temporary and are not suitable for the 163 migrants.
In General, a detained migrant, is the processing of the temporary facility, where he or she spends more than 72 hours before they are either deported to their home or transferred to the jurisdiction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Border Patrol previously said, it is a growing trend of large groups of migrants, many with small children, across the border, and then they turn. Some say, they flee violence and want to apply for asylum.
