Death toll by drinking illicit liquor in India pass 150

The number of deaths from drinking illegally-fired liquor in India has increased to more than 150. Certainly two hundred others are still treated in hospitals in the northeastern state of Assam.

Most of the victims, among whom were many women working on a tea plantation. They drank the alcoholic cocktails for the payment of their salary to celebrate.

According to the police, sixteen suspects were arrested and are samples of the beverage to a forensic laboratory. “We interrogate the suspects and will soon know where the toxic drink comes from and who is involved”, said the head of the police of Assam.

Accidents caused by the drinking of methanol are common in India. Not even two weeks ago, died nearly a hundred people by the drinking of illegal liquor.

Many Indians grabbing a jerry can of homemade liquor, because they have a bottle of a reliable brand in the off-licence can’t pay for it.
