5 dead after plane crashes in California shopping mall parking lot

The plane of the final moments caught on car dashcam outside of John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

The harrowing last moments of a small plane that plummeted to the ground Sunday were captured on a dashcam video, as members of the family have been identified as one of the five victims of the tragedy.

The Cessna 414 Chancellor, crashed in Santa Ana, about a mile from the John Wayne Airport, in the parking lot of a shopping center, according to the Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Arlene Salac. She added the pilot of the aircraft had declared an emergency shortly before the crash.

A driver captured the moment that the plane fell on the ground on a dashboard camera. People who witnessed the crash said the plane’s engine cut out as it fell to the ground.

“My godchild and I heard the sound, and when I looked up, and it was already lowering down. The as lost control, and it was run, and the more twirl, the more lower it came down, and then we heard the bang,” Connie Hernandez told ABC7.

All five people on board the plane were killed, the officials said. One of the victims was identified by family members as 29-year-old Nasim Ghanadan, that the real estate agent at Pacific Union and was on the flight for work, KGO-TV reported.

Nasim Ghanadan was killed in the crash on Sunday.


A spokesman for the Pacific Union, told KGO-TV that all the passengers on the flight worked for the company.


Ghanadan profile on the website of the company said that its clients appreciate her honesty, tenacious work ethic, strong negotiating skills and a cheerful spirit.”

“Her business philosophy is to treat her clients like family,” the website stated.

Photos from the scene showed the airplane upright, but on his stomach. Several roads around the mall and the South Coast Plaza mall on the other side of the street were closed.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash, Salac said.
