Deacon removed from the ministry after the call for research

NASHVILLE, Tennessee. – A Nashville deacon, who has questioned the handling of a recently published list of Tennessee priests accused of sexual abuse removed from ministry in the local parish.

Deacon Ron Deal confirmed Friday he has instructed not to by the minister on the Brentwood parish to his “public disagreement” with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville diocese is resolved. The Nov. 30 letter of the Deal church, the pastor, Rev. Joe McMahon.

Diocese spokesman Rick Musacchio says a Deal has not been suspended, but says that a decision could be reached if the Deal stopped in the public criticism of the church.

Deal is one of the many victim advocates who have called for an independent investigation after the diocese earlier this year published the names of 13 priests accused of sexual abuse of minors.
