De Randamie is everything for new world title
Germaine de Randamie has anything to reset the world title to compete in the UFC. The Utrecht starts its hunt for the championship belt in september at UFC Fight Night in Ahoy.
“The UFC has my title taken away, but what is mine I want back,” says Randamie (33) against NUsport.
The MMA fighter won the first Dutch woman ever in February and the world title in the UFC in New York, the American Holly Holm to beat. After she refused in the cage to step in against the Brazilian Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino due to the dopingverleden of her opponent, she got her world title in June lost.
De Randamie has her sights now set on the world title in the bantamklasse, the lighter category up to 61 kilograms), where she and her whole career came out. The fight against Holm in the featherweight (up to 65 kilograms) was for the Dutch a single trip.
“It does not matter to me how often I have to fight, whether that be one, two, three, four, five or six times. I want that belt back,” says Randamie resolutely. “I will top have to perform and then it is up to the UFC when I am invited to a wereldtitelgevecht. I will do everything in order that for each other.”
The Brazilian Amanda Nunes is rampant world champion in the bantamweight. De Randamie suffered the final defeat in her UFC career in 2013 against her.
Nunes won that title in July of last year and defended the belt six months later with success against MMA superstar Ronda Rousey. A second titelgevecht with the Peruvian Russian Valentina Shevchenko was also won by Nunes, but due to the alleged fraud with her weight, both fighters in september again facing each other.
De Randamie wants to after the disappointment of taken from her world title re-erection. “I have a huge team behind me with coaches, sparringpartners, family and friends who all contribute. They support me great on the way to my big goal.”
On 2 september, De Randamie for the first time since her victory at Holm in action in the UFC. She takes the rock up against the 40-year-old American Marion Reneau. “My focus is now on 2 september. Reneau, I do not know so well, but that doesn’t matter.”
“I always go out of my own strength, I go full for the knock-out. It doesn’t matter to me who is there in front of me.”
