Katie Wenszell, 28, suffered a brain injury, foot amputation, and other injuries in an attempt to save her mother from an oncoming train, reports said.
A Milwaukee woman remained in critical condition Tuesday after suffering horrific injuries Sunday in an attempt to save her mother — who had pushed a platform on tracks as a train approached, reports said.
Katie Wenszell, 28, was on holiday in Atlanta with her mother and sisters when the attack took place at a MARTA station, Milwaukee’s FOX 6 reported.

The daughter quickly jumped down to save her mother, Susan Wenszell, 58, who had been knocked unconscious.
“Had they not done this, my wife would come home in a funeral box,” father Jerry Wenszell told the station, adding that his daughter was “a hero in every sense of the word.”

Sue suffered a concussion, broken elbow and a hairline fracture, Atlanta’s WSB-TV reported. She was treated and released from a local hospital.
But Katie suffered a brain injury and was scheduled to undergo facial reconstruction surgery, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, citing WSB. In addition, a part of her right leg was amputated, and her left shoulder was torn off, the report said.
“Tumor in the brain — they had to drill a hole in her head to relieve the pressure,” Jerry told WSB.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with medical costs. As of the beginning of Wednesday was $4,100 of a $5,000 goal.
Video posted in a tweet by a FOX 5 Atlanta reporter showed one of the women who are struggling to emerge from under the train.

Witnesses to the MARTA station, gave their stories about what happened.
“I saw her legs dangling, and she screamed for mercy. … It is sickening,” one witness told FOX 5 Atlanta. “As she gets dragged on for a good little distance. For about 10 minutes, we sit there, not knowing whether they’re dead or alive.”
“We were down and a man just stared punching people, just crazy. … He Was punching anyone, he touched the girl in the back of the head for no reason,” another witness told Atlanta’s WGCL-TV.
The police arrested the suspect, identified as Christopher Patrick of Brooklin, 28. He was charged with aggravated assault and battery, FOX 6 reported.
MPD has arrested Christopher Patrick of Brooklin, age 28, in connection with the incident in a Midtown station on Sunday afternoon. He is charged with aggravated Assault and Battery in a Public transport Station. He is currently lodged in the Fulton County Jail.

There was no indication of Brooklin knew the woman with whom he allegedly pushed, MARTA Police Public Information Officer Cpl. Brian Lauda told FOX 5 Atlanta.
A reason is not immediately known, authorities said.
