Darmstadt sends player away due to ties with jihadists
Darmstadt 98 has the contract with Änis Ben-Hatira dissolved. The Bundesligaclub there decided Thursday to after it had become clear that the midfielder in the past has ties with jihadists.
The 28-year-old Ben-Hatira was doing his first season in the hekkensluiter of the German league.
He was born in Berlin and has both a German and Tunisian passport. Ben-Hatira came out for German national youth teams, but opted later for Tunisia.
Ben-Hatira was involved with al-Ansar International, an organization which in Germany is associated with extremism. In the past he came out for Hamburger SV and Hertha BSC.
This season was Ben-Hatira to eleven duels for Darmstadt, where he once scored. Saturday plays the club in the eighteenth matchday of the Bundesliga at home against 1.FC Köln.
