Danny de Munk and Alex Klaasen nominated for the Musical Award
Danny de Munk and Alex Klaasen belong to the a total of 55 nominees for the Musical Awards this year.
They compete against each other in the category best male lead in a big musical, Ciske de Rat and The Puss Cat.
For The Munk is the second time that he is nominated for this role; in 2008, he made chance of winning the prize when Ciske the Rat for the first time was staged. The statuette went to René van Kooten for Les Misérables. The third nominee in the category best male leading role is Jorrit Ruijs, that the evil Scar plays in The Lion King.
Klaasen, who in the past have been a record number of five Musical Awards won, is also nominated for the lyrics of the Puss in boots Cat. In this category takes the comedian the Bart Chabot, for his screenplay of the biography-musical Chez Bread.

In the battle for best female lead in a big musical, it goes between Joanne Telesford (Amandla Mandela), Keja Klaasje Kwestro (Puss Cat), and Vera Mann (Sweeney Todd).
In total, the figurines in fifteen categories were awarded. The most nominations go, as every year, to a producer for Stage Entertainment. But these fifteen nominations, are divided over a total of five performances. Puss Cat of the RO Theater, won the most nominations for each play in the waiting: in a total of ten pieces. Followed Chez Bread (nine), In the spell of Broadway (seven) and Ciske the Rat (six pieces).
The jury seems to be anyway with her choice, a preference for smaller producers such as Forest theatre Productions (ten nominations, including for Chez Bread), DeLaMar Theater (In the ban of Broadway), Janke Dekker Productions (Dancing with the enemy) and RO Theater. That last one dragged on for the past few years with hits like Long & Happy, The Sore Nose from Bergerac and the Woef Side Story is already a large number of prizes.
The award ceremony of the Musical Awards will take place on 12 January in the Beatrix Theater in Utrecht. The public can also vote for the Audience award.
