Dafne Schippers prolongeert world title at 200 meters in London

Dafne Schippers Friday at the world CHAMPIONSHIP of athletics in London, just like two years ago gold captured the 200 metres. The 25-year-old Utrecht ran from lane six in the light rain to a winning time of 22,05.

Just like two years ago in Beijing, it was a very exciting race in the Olympic Stadium. Marie-Josée Ta Lou remained throughout the race near Skippers, but the Ivorian came on the line three hundredths of a deficit. With 22,08 ran Ta Lou a Ivoriaans record.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo, the olympic champion in the 400 meters, came sharply up in the final meters and took the bronze in 22,15.

Schippers made this week in the series and semi-finals of the 200 meters already impressed by becoming the fastest time of the field to put down. The 22,05 from the finals is her best time of the season.

Skippers in the footsteps of the Jamaican Marlene Ottey (1993 and 1995) and the American Allyson Felix (2005, 2007 and 2009). They were to Friday, the only two women in the world title at the 200 metres had prolonged.

The former meerkampster won two years ago in Beijing gold in the 200 metres in a time of 21,63, still the Dutch record. She picked up last year at the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro silver on her favorite part.

Elaine Thompson from Jamaica crowned in Brazil to olympic champion, but the Jamaican chose to be 200 metres in London. Tori Bowie, the American world champion in the 100 meters, reported injured for the series of the 200 metres.

Schippers ended earlier this WK though as third in the 100 metres. She comes to Saturday, with the Dutch team still in action in the 4×100 metres relay.
