The cyclone Idai that the past few days the southeast of Africa and found, could become the biggest weather related natural disaster in the southern hemisphere ever. With that ominous message was to the world food programme of the united nations Tuesday.
According to the organization, there were 1.7 million people in Mozambique in the path of the cyclone, while in neighboring Malawi again 920.000 people were affected.
The storm was accompanied by tidal waves with a height of 6 metres which is an “incredible devastation” caused in a large area.
The official death toll is almost two hundred, but the UN fears that this will significantly increase. The government of Mozambique said already to account for more than a thousand victims.
