CUSTER, S. D. – Custer State Park officials expect that the inclusion of a South Dakota wildfire after the day shift crews their rotation.
The park said in a statement Friday that the fire is still at 50 percent containment. The blaze has consumed than 84 square miles (218 square kilometers).
Officials say snow is predicted Saturday in the Black Hills. They have demobilized two heavy air tankers, but a helicopter is a stay on scene for air recon.
Custer State Park is one of the top tourist destination in the south of Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the southwest of the state. Officials say that the park and the roads inside the remain closed.
The historic fire began Monday, and officials have attributed to the cause of the fire to a downed power line.
