Cummings defends Baltimore, invites Trump to tour the city

The ‘outnumbered’ panel weighs in on what can be done to fix conditions in Baltimore, Maryland life, and how both sides of the aisle can work together.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., Wednesday, President Trump invited to his visit to the district in the midst of an ongoing controversy, after the President, the conditions in Baltimore denounced.

“You know what? I want President Trump to come to my district,” said Cummings during a National Press Club event.

When Cummings was asked if he is in contact with trump, he said that he was able to him. “I want him to come and look at my entire city. I’m going to have to ride with him for hours, when he. Then, I want it said to go in Baltimore County, where the richest of the rich are,” Cummings.

“Then I want to go to him, in Howard County, where the richest of the rich. And then I want to see him all of the wonderful things that are happening,” added Cummings.


Trump provoked a media firestorm when he blasted Cummings’ town ridden with drugs and infestation by rats. After Trump received criticism from the likes of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., video emerged showing Cummings called his city “medium contaminated” and compared his people to “zombies.”

Cummings, on Wednesday, seemed to confirm that certain parts of his city were not great, but noted that Trump’s help, the situation with his rhetoric.

“You know, if you don’t beat on people, the difficulties and challenges in your life, it helps them,” Cummings said.


He also invited the press to come with him, and Trump if you toured the city. “Let me tell you something, Baltimore is a beautiful city,” he added.

He defended the city officials say, he and they worked hard every day. “But when you said the poorest of the poor, it is difficult … but at the same time, we’ve already wonderful things,” he said.
