O’rourke, a Democratic Congressman, was asked who played at a recent campaign event about the NFL players, the knees, during the anthem. O’rourke replied, “I think, nothing can stand up more American than peaceful, or take a knee for their rights at any time, anywhere, any place.”

Cruz, the elected conservative senator, in 2012, drew attention to the praise of Hollywood celebrities.

It comes, as O ‘ Rourke – who benefits from the favorable national media attention, sympathetic magazine profiles, and comparisons to the Kennedys – is on the rise on Cruz in the polls.

A NBC News/Marist poll released this week, Cruz shows O’rourke only by 4 points, with 49 percent support to O’rourke’s 45 percent.
