Baltimore County police said on Twitter that they have, for the first time, it was referred to as the town center for a report of a long-suspected, but that the situation “escalated.” The police spokesperson, Jennifer Sermons, said that four people were stabbed at a liquor store, and a fifth man was stabbed at a noodle restaurant. It was not immediately clear whether the victims were employees or customers.

Peach said the man was initially demanding money from a customer at the liquor store, and carrying a hunting-style knife with a three inch blade.

A witness told the Baltimore Sun they could see about seven police officers surrounding the suspect.

“The defendant was clearly not involved, as he is going super slow, and not after what he had to say,” said the woman, who asked to remain anonymous. They had heard three to six gunshots and saw the suspect fall to the ground.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
