The highest voetbalklasse in Portugal is plagued by matchfixing.
On 7 February 2017, almost a year ago, takes Feirense vs. Rio Ave in the Portuguese first division. The final result is 2-1, but even before the first ball is kicked, each bet on the race repealed by Jogos Santa Casa. The institution of gambling in Portugal supervises, after all, is alarmed by the ‘unusually high number of bets on the match. It would be a total of a half a million euro. At the end of last month, then hit announced that four players of Rio Ave who are suspected of money received for that match against Feirense.
At the club from Porto to close the ranks. Marco Carvalho, director of communications of Rio Ave: “We are always a unified group and we have expressed support for the players.’
However, take the case of still larger proportions. Some Portuguese newspapers reported that the court also has other competitions, researches, such as Benfica-Rio Ave from 24 april 2016 (1-0). President Luís Filipe Vieira responded violently: ‘Benfica is endorsed by a desperate campaign to get us to a fifth title in a row. The supporters may be on both of their ears and sleep, because not one of Benfica has a referee or the players of an opponent trying to buy.’
It is not the first time that the Portuguese football matchfixing. Two years ago, Europol revealed that the Russian mafia União de Leiria, as a next, used for the purpose of money laundering and for gokpraktijken. The Russian football agent Alexander Tolstikov, which in 2015 will become the owner of the club, was in may of 2016 held. A month later, however, he was again a free man. Today, he is still chairman of União de Leiria.
In 2016, it was also the Portuguese second class was startled by a matchfixingschandaal. There were fifteen people – players and board members – of a number of clubs held.
