Cornyn to Dems: If this was court you would disdain
The Republican senator talks Democrats are trying to delay, Brett Kavanaugh ‘ s Supreme Court hearing, during the opening talk.
Republican Senator John Cornyn suggested Kavanaugh and his Democratic colleagues “behaviour at the start of the Board’ s Supreme Court hearing, you would make instead of “contempt of court” in a regular court.
Fireworks broke out in the hearing when Senate judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley began his opening talk. Democrats constantly interrupted and talked about the 84-year-old Republican, for more time to check of around 42 000 documents of the Committee received last minute.
Sen., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., specifically, the hearing moves to stand. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N. J., accused the Committee of “rushing through this process in a way that is unnecessary.”
But Sen. Cornyn warned his Democratic colleagues, who say that if the hearing was “treated like a court” – as a Democrat, had proposed – well, then, “virtually every member” of the Democratic side “would be held in contempt of court.”
KAVANAUGH’S CONFIRMATION HEARING, LIKELY TO FOCUS ON ABORTION, GUN RIGHTS AND MORE
“Because this whole process is a civil one, where people ask and we get answers, and this is the basis we are to preserve our constitutional responsibilities of advice and consent, so I would recommend only, we have said with the hearing,” Cornyn.
He later told that the Democrats would try to run the hearing according to “mob rule”, and said they were unjust, because they had “already decided” prior to the hearing.
Kavanaugh has left the longest paper trail of any recent Supreme Court nominee, she served for more than a decade on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, and before that for five years as a lawyer in the White House Counsel’s office during the George W. Bush administration.
Democrats have seen thousands of documents, but want to have time and read more. You also said, you have no access to certain documents, which they say is necessary to properly vet Kavanaugh.
BRETT KAVANAUGH HEARING INTERRUPTED BY DEMOCRATIC SENATORS, PROTESTS
Apart from the Senate Democrats’ interruption, at least 22 protesters interrupted the hearing, at the opening, according to the United States Capitol Police.
