A convicted rapist who shoved a 17-year-old girl from New York City roof after she refused his sexual advances, in 1989, was convicted on Wednesday, two years after DNA evidence linked him to the decades-old murder.

Scott Parrilla was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the August 1989 killing of Noelis Bayanilla, Bronx District Attorney’s Office announced. The 48-year-old was not in court for the sentencing, where Bayanilla the mother of Joann Estanislau Caliz said the now-convicted killer deserved to “rot in prison,” the New York Post reported.

“I can’t put into words what you have done to my only child. August 6, 1989, you cut off her life — and that you cut from my heart that day,” Estanislau-Caliz said in court. “What you have done, I will never understand! You deserve to rot in prison for the rest of your life!”

Nearly three decades ago, Parrilla, then 19, ran Bayanilla home about 5 hours to her Bronx home and went up to the roof. He demanded Bayanilla to have sex with her, but she refused, officials said.

“If they tried to leave the scene, a struggle ensued, and the suspect grabbed the victim and pushed her from the roof. She died of her injuries in the Jacobi Hospital two days after the incident,” the district attorney’s office stated.

Several witnesses told investigators that they saw Parrilla with Bayanilla for her death, but lack of evidence prevented authorities from pursuing the cost — leaving the case cold.

Bronx Homicide Squad reopened the case in 2015 after the teenager’s girlfriend called the police with new information. The researchers eventually found DNA collected from Bayanilla the nails on that of Parrilla that are already on file from a 1993 rape and attempted murder conviction in the Bronx.

Parilla was arrested in March 2016 as he was leaving Rikers Island after serving time for larceny.

“The suspect, who served time in prison for rape and other crimes during the killing of this teen girl still not resolved, it will now spend many years in prison for taking her life,” Bronx district Attorney Darcel Clark said.
