Considerably more is spent on expensive medicines in the Netherlands

The expenditure on expensive medicines to increase still strong in the Netherlands. Between 2014 and 2015 is going to be an increase of about 100 million euros to 1.84 billion euros.
The most money is spent on anti-cancer drugs, finds the Dutch healthcare authority (NZa) in a report.
It comes to medicines provided in the hospital and are so expensive that they are separate from the treatment declared. About 183.000 people were treated with these agents.
According to the NZa is the cost increase due to new medicines becoming more expensive. The first years after a new drug comes on the market, costs are rising the fastest. That is because the medicine soon with more indications, and therefore more patients is used.
