Concertgebouw orchestra honors conductor Leonard Bernstein
The Royal Concertgebouw orchestra (RCO) will begin on 2 February with the implementation of a special series of seven concerts, to the hundredth birthday of composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein in 2018 to celebrate.
During that first program places the orchestra in the American Bernstein against the backdrop of New York of his time. Author Arnon Grunberg leads the evening in.
The Amsterdam orchestra had a lot of with Bernstein (1918-1990). He conducted the RCO in 1950 for the first time. Three years before his death, in 1987, the orchestra even twice with him on tour through Europe.
This year it’s also sixty years ago that Bernstein composed West Side Story premiered as a musical. Four years later, the film, now a classic, an international success.
