Competitors retain access to fixed network, KPN
Telecom provider KPN to competitors access to continue to grant access to its fixed copper network, so that there is sufficient competition remains on the market for fixed internet.
The board of Appeal for the Business community gave the Authority Consumer & Market (ACM), Monday into a lawsuit that KPN filed against the supervisor.
KPN wants to be independent can make agreements with competitors and will of the regulation of the ACM. The court rejected all the arguments of the provider, however, of the hand.
That means that the ACM control of the way in which companies such as Tele2 and T-Mobile wired internet access, tv and telephony offer through the network of KPN. Pay other providers a fixed amount per customer of KPN.
At the end of 2015, the ACM that the network of KPN in each case for three years must remain open for competitors. According to the regulator, provides regulation for a savings of 250 million euros per year at the cost of consumers, because wired internet access, otherwise, a lot more expensive would be.
The ACM says are pleased with the ruling. “This ruling is good for both consumers and businesses,” said a spokesman. “Without regulation of the ACM, most people would for their telecom services only be able to choose from KPN or Ziggo. Now they can also choose between different providers on the KPN network, such as Online, Tele2 and T-mobile. This leads to lower prices and better services.”
Also T-Mobile is excited. “Now it remains for each carrier possible to compete against the duopoly of KPN and VodafoneZiggo. It is important for the consumer that there is a choice from more than two providers,” says a spokesman.
A spokesman for KPN said it is unfortunate to find that the court is the ACM equivalent. The provider continues to find that an independent appointments can be made with competitors, without government regulation.
The cable network of Ziggo, now part of the joint venture VodafoneZiggo, is not open to competitors. The current European rules do not allow for that to enforce, but the government said earlier in Europe to insist on relaxation of those rules. According to the ACM, there is also sufficient competition, as only the network of KPN is opened.
