Comic strip artist Jan Kruis (83) died
Comic strip artist Jan Kruis is Thursday at age 83, died. He became especially famous thanks to Jan, Jans and the Children.
His family has his death Friday published. Cross was for some time ill.
Cross, the series of Jan, Jans and the Children almost thirty years for the Libelle. The comic strip about a typical Dutch family was based partly on his own family. Of the series appeared dozens of albums, which in large numbers were sold.
In 1999, Cross with a pension. He sold the rights of Jan, Jans and the Children Studio Jan Kruis, the strip continued.
The artist received several awards, including the Marten Toonderprijs. He was also knighted in the Order of the Dutch Lion.
Despite his retirement, continued to Cross active as an illustrator. So he made a cartoon version of Woutertje Pieterse by Multatuli.
Also was the cartoonist who for decades in the province of Drenthe lived, active as an ambassador of the feast of St. Pancake. Cross conceived the fictitious party on 29 november, in which pancakes are eaten, in 1986 for one of his strips. But in the last years, Sint-Pannekoek still bigger celebrated, especially by students.
