The new store concept, Colruyt will open after a testing year in a restored farmstead in Overijse, now also established in a urban environment: the heart of Ghent. Target date is may 2016.
At the end of november 2014 opened supermarktgroep Colruyt, the first Cru in an old farm along the Brusselsesteenweg in Overijse. The concept “for and by people with a passion for fine food, pure tastes and authentic quality products”, was the last months adjusted and is ready for the test in an urban environment. There will be a dozen booths present with a fresh and prepared (local) products in the promotion. Of an artisan bakery and a butcher to a vegetable or fruitboer.
Ghent was not selected by chance. “Three of the core co-workers of our concept of Cru are purebred guys from gent. Where we come in, we want each child of the region’. They will ensure that Cru Gent meet the needs of its citizens,” said director Jean-Pierre Roelands.
The new Cru is on a site of Matexi to the Kouterplein, which is still in full verbouwingsfase. In may 2016, depending on the progress of the work during the winter period, – the doors will open.
The experiences in the new office will be decisive for the further roll-out of Cru in Belgium. Soon, more details are made known about the third Cru-office in Antwerp, but according to Roelands in the long term are fifteen to twenty Cru’s happening in Belgium. For a fourth establishment he looks to Flemish Brabant and Wallonia.
“We want to not tie myself down to that number, or a timing, because the biggest challenge will be to find sufficiently skilled staff. There is potential, but we must do it well.”
The Ghent mayor Daniel Termont (sp.(a) the project is already inclined. “Our city has something to do with healthy food, fresh and organic, with sustainable food production, and it is not for nothing that the veggiehoofdstad of Europe and is home to the Flemish Foodies. He made a bridge to the climate change “Everyone can benefit from stores that local sell products”, she said. (Belga/DB)
