Colombia wants money and belongings of FARC-rebels take
Illegally obtained money and property of the Colombian FARC rebels in the long term be seized. This warned president Juan Manuel Santos Wednesday in New York.
According to Santos, the guerrilla movement by collaborating with drug traffickers of cash, real estate and bank accounts will be collected. “We know how behind their money should go and we don’t allow them the purpose of money laundering”, said the Colombian president.
The proceeds of those actions should benefit to the victims that the FARC has made. Santos: “If we are their property, and we have a lot of identified, then we take that and we use the money to victims to pay damages.”
FARC and the Colombian government were previously agreed on a peace agreement. That is still in a referendum submitted to Colombian voters. The rebels promised inter alia to pay damages and to distance themselves from the drug trade.
Minister Bert Koenders (Foreign Affairs) is on Monday next week, attended the official signing of the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC, he let Sunday know.
