Colombia plane crash survivor takes first steps, vows to play football again

The emotional moment a Chapecoense plane crash survivor runs again.


Almost two months after a plane carrying a Brazilian soccer team crashed and killed 71 of the 77 passengers, an emotional video with one of the survivors that his or her first steps since the tragedy is released.

The brazilian footballer Helio Neto, 31, is seen walking barefoot in the video without the help of crutches. Neto ran a fracture in the fifth lumbar vertebra and was taken to hospital with a lung infection after the Nov. 28 crash. He was released Dec. 22, but has continued to work with a physiotherapist, Central European News (CEN) reported.

“I think I will be able to play again soon,” Neto said. “With the help of God, I will be on the field soon with the Chapecoense shirt.”

Neto reportedly said that he cannot remember anything about the crash, which happened while the team is on the way to the finals of a regional tournament in Medellin, Colombia.
