Clinton and Trump for the first time directly in a debate
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are Tuesday morning at 3.00 pm, starting the first official televised debate for presidential candidates.
The debate began Tuesday morning with a discussion about employment. Trump emphasized that American jobs at this time in the rapidly disappearing abroad. He called for tax cuts for the rich.
Clinton that Trumps tax cuts backfire would work; the debt would rise and jobs would disappear. The middle class should be helped, said Clinton – a traditional position of Democrats.
In the run-up to the elections, there are a total of three direct debates between Clinton and Trump, and one between the candidate vice presidents.
The debate, that ninety minutes in duration, and not interrupted by commercials, is held on the campus of Hofstra University, a university with Dutch roots just outside of New York.
The debate draws in the United States, probably about one hundred million viewers.
