City council Enschede agreement with guarantee for FC Twente
The city council of Enschede is Thursday night in majority agreed on a package of aid to FC Twente.
A previously provided loan of 17 million euros is to be extended and the city is also guarantor for 8.4 million euros.
Without sponsorship was the chance of a bankruptcy of the club from the Premier league 100 per cent, shows off pieces from the board. This would make the municipality for 17 million euros on the ship. By the guarantee to add drops that chance to 20 percent.
Eight council members voted Thursday night during an extra council meeting, 27 councillors agreed.
With this funding, is the cold for the club still not completely out of the air. The treasury is still busy with a comprehensive investigation of the act in conflict with the tax rules on transfers of players between 2011 and 2015. This can result in a significant tax assessment lead. When it occurs, is not known.
Also, there is still a criminal investigation to the club, reported the Functional office of the Public Ministry, if requested. Also about any prosecution of those involved, nothing is yet known.
Wait and see
Member of the board of the club Jan van Halst called this decision a necessary bump. “We can continue to build. The confidence in the club is the last time what restored.” About a possible claim of the tax authorities or the investigation of the FOR he could have little to say. “We can only wait and see.”
According to the responsible alderman Eelco Eerenberg (D66) was the only possible outcome for the municipality. “Each of the alternatives had our 17 million euros on the trip.”
