The church gives money to the municipality, with a single request.

Members at a Texas church is blessed with “joyful generosity” of their pastor during the Sunday service, but now it is their turn to be a blessing.

Pastor Paul Mussachio gifted participants at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church in Plano with envelopes holding various amounts of a total of 125,000 euros.

“Best surprise ever!” tweeted. “I can’t wait to figure out how to spend it to bless others. What a great lesson for my children.”

Best surprise ever! Our church gave us money, so we could use it to bless the lives of others. I can’t wait to figure out how to spend it to bless others. What a great lesson for my children. #ilovemychurch #prestonmeadowgives pic.twitter.com/MFn5osMyOv

The move shocked many of the members.

“What? How much?” Bibs Toney, who was there Sunday, told Fox 4. “That’s a lot of money!”

Each person or family, opened an envelope that is a blank cheque for a total of $250, $500 or $1,000 with a simple question: cash for easter Sunday, and instead of giving it back to the church, look for ways to pay it forward, especially for people in need.

“The rules are pretty simple,” Mussachio told the congregation. “What is the greatest need in your life right now, what God is in your heart.”

They were also given a pamphlet about the project.

“We are blessed to be a blessing, so look out for the people around you who need this kind of blessing now,” the instructions on a pamphlet to read. “People in the neighbourhood or far away for you, strangers, organizations close to your heart or our church.”

The message contained the Bible verse, Luke 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will men give into your bosom; for with the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

Mussachio said generosity is one of the most important values in their church.

“Generosity, we believe, is not how much you have or how much you give, but it is who you are in the direction of other people in life, and we want to life in a big way,” the priest said in an online video.

The large sum of money handed out to the congregants, was donated by a few members after a similar, successful experiment with the fourth-graders in their church were much smaller amounts.
