BARCELONA (Reuters) – China’s Xiaomi, the world’s fourth-largest smartphone maker, unveiled a smartphone on the Sunday who will be able to take advantage of the new and faster 5G mobile networks and the cost is much less than announced by market leader Samsung last week.
Prices for Xiaomi, the new offer will start at 599 euros ($679.33) when it comes on the market in May, Donovan Sung, Xiaomi’s global head of products, told a trade show in Barcelona, ask gasps in the hall where it was issued.
Samsung, which leads the market, ahead of Huawei and Apple, started with a 5G phone on Wednesday, it said in the beginning of the summer, with a $1,980 from price. [L1N20F1EI]
“We think this is one of the most competitive prices for a 5G smartphone today and it is going to be very, very soon,” Sung said.
Xiaomi initially target Asian markets, especially India, for the overseas expansion, prior to the launch in Spain, France and Italy at the end of 2017.
