BEIJING/hong KONG (Reuters) – Meituan Dianping, a Chinese-online food delivery-to ticketing company, has launched the construction of a mapping service, based on the introduction of a piece of land that is currently dominated by Alibaba’s AutoNavi and Baidu Maps.

As a president of Meituan, told Reuters that the company was working on the project, after it announced more than a dozen locations on the job site Lagou.com on Tuesday, a new service, called “Meituan Cards. The position is looking for range of data-mining engineer and machine learning expert.
“We will be able to confirm to you that Meituan is working on a map of the area”, the spokesperson said.
In the Chinese media last month reported that Meituan had hired a former vice-president of the peer-to-peer network, the second-hand car trading platform, Renrenche, who had previously worked with Baidu Maps, in order to join the team. Meituan, the hospital spokeswoman, confirmed the hire.
Meituan, a cross-breed between the AMERICAN discount platform, Groupon, and online review company, Yelp, the so-called super-app provides a variety of services such as hotel booking, movie tickets, and discounts from local businesses.
It is a breed of Chinese tech upstarts, in addition to video-streaming-app-TikTok-for the owner of the Bytedance-and-ride-from-giant, She Chuxing, that have come to the fore in the last few years, and are a serious threat to the dominance of Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent.
Meituan has recently surpassed the search engine giant Baidu and e-commerce giant JD.com Inc. by market capitalization.
A source familiar with the matter have told Reuters that Meituan Cards, it is to be a part of the company to a location-based service platform, aiming at the improvement of the navigation of the unit from the bike share, ride, from and to public transport.
Meituan, the spokesperson for the police said that the location-based services platform was set up in October this year.
AutoNavi and Baidu Maps, the two leading map apps in China, while others, such as Tencent also exist.
Telecom giant, Huawei, is planning to launch a mapping service, Map Kit, and in October, in the face of a possible U.S. ban on the use of Google Maps in its smartphones in the netherlands.
Meituan is currently used in AutoNavi and Tencent Maps for the bike and the parts, and away from services. Meituan is the local listing app, Dazhong Dianping, also known as China’s Yelp, it also includes Baidu Maps and AutoNavi for users who have a need to have the directions to the restaurants or the clubs they are on Dazhong Dianping mobile app.
