Chef Jan Smink invests all his time in the final Bocuse d’or

Tuesday is the international finals of the Bocuse d’or. Chef Jan Smink is representing the Netherlands during this prestigious cooking competition and has worked hard to make an impression on the jury. “You invest every spare hour to the preparation of this competition.”

It is according to the chef’s unique that the Netherlands, at this level, participates in a cooking competition as the Bocuse d’or. “icipants from other countries have professional wedstrijdchefs, who are here day and night. We do this beside it.”

icipation in the cooking competition consists of a route of approximately two years. First had Smink, the Dutch league win and then to be able to flow to the European final.

Smink managed a seventh place. In total, the eleven best participants to the international final. “It is the highest position that a Dutch team has ever managed to get hold of.”

Openness

In Lyon, take chefs from different continents against each other in the final. “Here, walk to the top of the international culinary world,” says Smink in conversation with NU.nl. “It is ever the Olympics of cooking.”

He thinks that such cooking competitions contributed to the fact chefs are more open to work. “And also social media, of course. Previously, recipes are much more kept secret,” says Smink.

“As a chef today, a new recipe, often, for example, Instagram shared. This openness allows for more inspiration and interaction within the culinary field.”

The Dutch team is next to Smink from commis Sander Verhaaf, and coach Lars Aukema. Driesterrenchef Jonnie Boer is the president of Bocuse d’or Nederland and member of the jury during international competitions.
