Both heenmatchen, Liverpool, and Lyon, were at 0-0 ended, so everything was still open was.

In Munich came the English Wednesday night after half an hour of play on the lead with a great goal of Sadio Mané. Bayern donned for the rest at the same height thanks to an own goal from Joel Matip, but in the second half put Virgil van Dijk and again Mané the qualification for the Reds safe: 1-3.

In Barcelona, it was a whopping 5-1. Lionel Messi played a starring role with two goals and two assists, for Gerard Piqué and Ousmane Dembélé. Philippe Coutinho was on the scoreboard. An easy evening for the Catalans, already brought Lucas Tousard with the 2-1 shortly after the break back tension in the match.

At Liverpool if Divock Origi ten minutes before the end of the regular time raids. Jason Denayer should start for Lyon, but caused after 17 minutes a penaltyfout on Luis Suarez, what the 1-0 by Messi proceedings.

Kwarfinalisten

Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona will qualify, therefore, as the last two clubs for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Tuesday placed Juventus and Manchester City already and Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, FC Porto and Manchester United policyholders last week to a place among the best eight.

Remarkable: it is for the first time since the 2010-2011 season that Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, Real Madrid is that even ago of 2009-2010. For the last time that both the German and the Spanish recordkampioen lacked in the last eight, we should all go back to 2007-2008 Bayern – took part in the kampioenenbal.

Englishmen are back

For the first time since 2009 four English teams in the quarter-finals. In that season, and the previous two, was England even three years in a row by three clubs represented in the semi-finals (Chelsea and Manchester United, three times, Liverpool and Arsenal once).

This seem to be the British all the way back, after a few lesser years. Last season brought Liverpool and Manchester City, however, the quarter-finals; the Reds eventually finished in the final against Real Madrid. But in the season 2016-2017 went to Leicester City as the final English club in the quarter-finals against Atletico Madrid. In 2015-2016 was Manchester City the only kwartfinalist, was killed when against Real in the semi-finals. In the editions 2014-2015 and 2012-2013 was even worse, when had England, not even a single representative more in the quarter-finals.

The two ‘examples’ in the quarter-finals are FC Porto and Ajax. For the Portuguese is the ago of the season 2014-2015 that they are the best eight took (Benfica managed a season later, as the last Portuguese club). What the people of Amsterdam, we are already back to 2003. The last Dutch club to Ajax in the quarter-finals reached, it was PSV in the 2006-2007 season.
