Chairman Rummenigge stops at association of European soccer clubs
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge shall not be eligible for re-election as chairman of the European Club Association (ECA), the association of European soccer clubs.
The 61-year-old German, chairman of Bayern Munich, performs the function since the establishment of the ECA in 2008. After a small ten years, and after three times re-elected, Rummenigge, it is time for someone else.
Rummenigge called his period in a statement of the ECA “intense and successful”. The officer received over the past few years, a lot of criticism, especially on the fact that the difference between the top clubs and the other clubs in Europe is growing.
“The European clubs feel a great solidarity with the medium and smaller clubs, as these smaller clubs again, understanding the wishes and needs of the major European clubs. I am particularly proud of that fact,” said Rummenigge in a statement.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino regrets that Rummenigge leaves. “It was a pleasure to work with him,” he said. The successor of Rummenigge is 5 september in Geneva, selected.
