Catholic university names first lay leader in the history

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The new president of John Carroll University will be the first lay leader in the 131-year-old history of the private, Catholic school in the vicinity of Cleveland.

Cleveland.com reports of the university board approved a five-year contract for Michael Johnson on Dec. 6. The 61-year-old is the current rector of Babson College in Massachusetts, where he is also a marketing professor.

Johnson takes the place of ds. Robert Niehoff, who announced his retirement in March. Johnson will also serve as a professor in the department of management, marketing, and supply chain.

His term of office begins on July 1 the school was founded by the Society of the Jesuits. Salary details were not released, but the previous presidents that are part of the Society of the Jesuits, did not take a salary.
