QUINCY, Mass. – A Roman Catholic priest charged with sexually assaulting a young girl during a stay at her family’s Massachusetts home in 2006.
The Rev. Christian Ohazulume (oh-hahz-uh-LOO-mee) pleaded not guilty Tuesday to aggravated indecent assault and battery of a child under 14. The bail is set at $5,000.
Prosecutors say Ohazulume lived with the family in the suburb of Boston Randolph after coming to the US. of Nigeria.
The alleged abuse happened when the girl, about 7 or 8 years old, went to the Ohazulume the bedroom to help with homework.
Ohazulume was a chaplain at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, but is now redundant. The Archdiocese of Boston has excluded him from the ministry.
His lawyer says Ohazulume denies the allegations and has asked for his release on personal recognizance.
