Catholic order settles sex abuse lawsuits

MORRISTOWN, N. J. – A New Jersey Catholic order has settled lawsuits with several men who claim they were sexually abused by monks, and a director of a private school.

The Record of the reports of the Order of St.-Benedict of New Jersey was settled by five men who claimed they were abused while attending the Delbarton School in Morris Township. There are six other pending complaints against the order, which name faculty of Delbarton and St. Elizabeth’s.

Priest Timothy Bennett was mentioned in eight of those complaints. He was convicted of aggravated sexual contact, or three decades ago.

According to the court documents, Brennan admitted to the abuse of 50 boys.

Brennan has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Former Delbarton director Luke Travers was also named in a lawsuit. He denies the allegations.
